Barring Unusual Cold, 2012 Will Be Hottest Year on Record

Climate Central: The U.S. has experienced its warmest year-to-date (January-August) on record, and unless the next four months are about as cold as the first eight months were hot, 2012 will go down as the hottest year on record. According to the National Climatic Data Center, 1998 was the warmest year on record in the U.S., with an average temperature of 55.08°F.
